Restronguet Point

Our client instructed us to design a replacement dwelling, garage and waterside boathouse for a site located in Restronguet Point, south of the village of Feock in the Cornwall AONB. The original detached 1970’s bungalow occupied a long plot, with the rear garden sloping down to the coastal waters of Carrick Roads, with boat storage and slipway facilities.

Proportionate to the size of the curtilage, the larger proposed dwelling retains the original T-shaped footprint, with the bulk of the building being closer to the northern boundary to maximise orientation to the south. Appearing as a two storey structure from the front and three storeys from the rear, by utilising the natural contours of the site, the recessed sections and limited height projections of the cantilever design reduce visual massing and impact on neighbours. The new 4 bay garage is concealed from the road by altering the garden levels. Located at the rear of the garden, the boathouse appears incidental in scale and low in profile.

The unique, contemporary design with varying materials of grey slate stonework infill panels with white render banding and large areas of glazing to take advantage of the superb views out of the site across Carrick Roads towards St Just in Roseland and beyond.

Planning permission was granted in December 2016 and detailed construction drawings were prepared for the purposes of building regulations approval and formal tender stage. Laurence Associates have been commissioned to provide on-site supervision and a Professional Consultants Certificate for the development. Work is intended to commence on site in summer 2017.
